An entertainment industry veteran, Rich ran the Creative Services Group at A&M Records in Hollywood from 1983 until 1994.  In that capacity he oversaw the visual imaging of the A&M roster, including The Police, Suzanne Vega, Joe Jackson, Sting, Janet Jackson, Sheryl Crow, Amy Grant, Supertramp and Soundgarden.  Frankel managed the creative development of all packaging and marketing support and executive produced scores of promotional videos as well as long form music videos.  Two of these long-form videos were awarded Grammys: “Janet Jackson’s Rhythm Nation” in 1989 and Sting’s “Ten Summoner’s Tales” in 1993.  Several of Sting’s and Janet Jackson’s promotional videos have been honored by MTV’s Music Video Awards, as well as Soundgarden’s “Black Hole Sun” and Suzanne Vega’s “Luka,” which also won a Mentor Award in 1988.

Before his A&M years, Rich was among the original team that launched and marketed MTV, Nickelodeon and The Movie Channel.  As the first Creative Director at Warner Amex Satellite Entertainment Company, Frankel developed trade and consumer marketing for the network start-ups.  Most notable among those early efforts was the rebirth of George Lois’s famous celebrity device, which energized a new generation with its call to action: “I want my MTV!”
